Sharp: Your 4K Smartphone is Right Around the Corner

4K displays are now available for smartphones now that Sharp has introduced the world's first 5.5-inch display with 3,840 x 2,160 "Ultra HD" resolution. That translates into a ridonkulous pixel density of 806 pixels per inch (ppi). Why on Earth would you ever want that many pixels on a smartphone, especially since human eyes can't really see any quality improvement over 300 ppi (at normal viewing distances)? When using a smartphone for a VR experience (as in the Samsung Gear VR ), the phone's display is only about an inch from your face. At that distance you can actually see the pixels even in a QUAD HD display. With 4K, virtual worlds on phones will look more realistic.
