A memorial service was held in Sharm El Sheikh on Monday, honouring the victims of the Russian airliner that was downed over Sinai in October 2015. The ceremony was held in the Coptic Cathedral of All Saints-Heaven, which is the largest on the Sinai Peninsula.
Hundreds joined in the commemorations, including the Ambassadors of Russia and Belarus Sergei Kirpichenko and Sergei Rachkov respectively, the Governor of South Sinai Khaled Fouda and Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy. Governor Fouda urged the whole world to “unite against this evil," adding that “no one can remain indifferent or on the fence about this matter."
The Russian Airbus-321 came down in the Sinai Peninsula en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg on October 31, 2015.
