What to Know About the Suspect in the Charleston Church Massacre

The suspect in the shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina, church that killed nine people has been identified by authorities as 21-year-old Dylann Storm Roof. Roof is from the city of Lexington, which is about two hours from Charleston, according to authorities.
Authorities said Roof may be driving a black Hyundai and was last seen dressed in a grey sweatshirt and jeans.
Court records show that Roof has been arrested at least two times in the last few months.
On March 2 he was picked up in Lexington County and booked on drug possession charges and then on April 26, he was arrested in Richland County for trespassing, according to court records.
An uncle of Roof’s told Reuters he recognized him in the surveillance photo. Carson Cowles, 56, said, “The more I look at him, the more I’m convinced, that’s him."
