EU States Agree to Send Migrants Back Home Faster

European Union leaders agreed to speed up the repatriation of migrants who do not qualify for asylum, in a bid to discourage people from attempting the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean. According to a joint statement released on Friday after a summit in Brussels, heads of government said they would press countries in Africa and elsewhere to take back migrants and seek to give the EU's border protection agency new powers to return newcomers.
