Al Jazeera America Appoints New CEO

Al Jazeera America announced Wednesday afternoon that Al Anstey is the newest CEO of the company, replacing Ehab Alshihabi effective immediately. The news was reportedly met with cheers in the network's New York newsroom. Anstey, most recently managing director of Al Jazeera English, replaces Alshihabi in the midst of a period of intense turmoil at the fledgling American arm of the Al Jazeera empire. Three high-level executives have resigned from the network in the last two weeks and a former employee has brought a $15 million wrongful termination lawsuit that alleges discrimination against women and that a top manager made disparaging remarks about Jews and Israel.
