Over 100 people gathered outside North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory's Executive Mansion in Raleigh, North Carolina, for a musical protest against the controversial 'House Bill 2', which is considered to impinge on rights of the LGBT community and other minorities, Wednesday.
Demonstrators have dubbed themselves the 'Air Horn Orchestra', with members of the organisation bringing musical instruments including trumpets and drums and distributing shirts, horns, whistles and ear protection. The crowd blew their instruments while holding banners opposing the law. Police were deployed to secure the governor's premises.
The Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, commonly known as House Bill 2 or HB2, is an act that was passed in North Carolina earlier in the year. Republican lawmakers in North Carolina's General Assembly introduced House Bill 2 after the city of Charlotte approved a new measure allowing transgender people to use toilets and changing facilities based on their gender identity. The bill states that all multiple-occupancy toilets and changing facilities in public schools, public college campuses and government agencies must be designated for use by people based on their biological sex, as written on their birth certificate, and not the gender they identify with.
