Indonesia's Mount Sinabung belched ash and smoke high into the sky, Monday, as all signs indicate it could be on the brink of a major eruption. Around 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) from the bubbling volcano, the village of Brastagi has been blanketed in ash while emergency services and volunteer groups provide shelter and food to internally displaced people. About 33,000 people are living in close proximity to Mount Sinaburg. Only 10,000 of them have moved to emergency shelters, although authorities have issued a warning requesting all people residing in the main danger zone leave the areas affected. The zone covers a distance of seven kilometres (four miles) to the south and southeast of the volcano. Mount Sinaburg is 2,460 meters (8,070 ft) high and has been sporadically erupting since 2010, when the volcano surprisingly exploded following a 40 year silence. In 2014, a powerful explosion has claimed the lives of at least 17 people in the nearby area.
