SOT, Rick Perry, US Energy Secretary: "I want to reiterate that the United States wholeheartedly condemns Iran's attack on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and we call on other nations to do the same. This behaviour is unacceptable, it’s unacceptable and they must be held responsible. Make no mistake about it, this was a deliberate attack on the global economy and the global energy market. President Trump has authorised the release of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve, if that is needed, and my department stands ready to respond."
W/S Press conference *CUTAWAY*
SOT, Rick Perry, US Energy Secretary: "The United States remains committed to addressing the threats posed by the nuclear programmes of both North Korea and Iran. In recent months Iranian actions have been of great concern as Iran continues to use its nuclear programme to extort the international community and threaten regional security. My administration continues to apply maximum pressure both diplomatically and economically to deny Iran any pathway to a nuclear weapon."

The United States Energy Secretary Rick Perry used part of his speech at the 63rd International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna on Monday to accuse Iran of a drone strike on an oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia.
"The United States wholeheartedly condemns Iran's attack on Saudi Arabia, we call on other nations to do the same. This behaviour is unacceptable, it's unacceptable and they must be held responsible. Make no mistake about it, this was a deliberate attack on the global economy and the global energy market," Perry told the gathered IAEA delegates.
The drone attack took place on 14 September at an oil processing facility in Abqaiq effectively disrupting half of Saudi Arabia's oil reserves. Houthi militants operating in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack however United Sates authorities have accused Iran of the assault.
The Energy Secretary went on to relay a message from President Donald Trump at the conference stating that that the US will continue to apply what it calls 'maximum pressure' on Iran to deny the country of developing a nuclear weapon.
