A journalist who witnessed the attack in Barcelona shared his experience as he took refuge in a clothes shop near Las Ramblas, Thursday.
Daniel Chalyan spoke from Typographia on Carrer d'Elisabets just moments after he took shelter in the shop alongside six other people and the two owners.
He provided live updates as a picture of what had happened started to emerge.
"Apparently there was a hostage situation nearby at a Turkish restaurant, and unofficial sources now say that three suspects have escaped from police and that is why we are now sitting here," Chaylan explained as the events unfolded.
Chaylan was ordered to remain in the shop by police after a van mowed down crowds of pedestrians on Las Ramblas in the city centre.
The police have confirmed one person dead so far, and over thirty injured. The authorities are treating the incident as potential terror attack, having tweeted, "The terrorist attack protocol has been activated."
