The world’s leading oil producers failed to reach an agreement on the capping of oil output after members from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) convened in Doha on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference in the Qatari capital, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar Mohammed Saleh Al Sada announced that the freeze issue was debated from "all aspects," however the meeting concluded that more time was needed "for further consultation" on the issue.
He went on to announce that from now until June meetings between OPEC and all participating countries will consult among themselves to try to reach an agreement. The next meeting has been scheduled for June 5 in Vienna.
Oil prices have soared by more than 30 percent on the prospect of a production freeze. The failure to reach an agreement to freeze production is likely to see prices plunge again.
