Military assistance in the fight against terrorism is only provided to sovereign governments such as Syria and Iraq, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a press conference in Oulu, Wednesday. Speaking at the Barents Euro-Arctic Council, Lavrov stressed that Russia is assisting Iraq in accordance and in full consent with the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Kurds respectively. Lavrov also reaffirmed Russia's invitation to join the newly founded coordination centre against terrorism in Baghdad. Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that 40 Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) targets had been hit in recent airstrikes conducted by Russia.
