UK: Disabled protesters dragged out of parliament by police

About 50 protesters including some in wheelchairs were forcebly dragged out of the House of Commons by police in London, Wednesday, after attempting to occupy the chamber during a protest against disability cuts to the International Living Fund (ILF). Organised by Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), the protesters scuffled with police in the Parliament building before being forcebly dragged away in what protesters claim was an excessive use of force. The group also rallied outside the Parliament building with some attempting to block traffic. One DPAC protester had his wheelchair damaged as he was forced out by police while another, Sam Brackenbury, compared the UK government to the Nazis. "The only difference between the Tory government and the Nazis is the Nazis were a bit more honest about what they intended," he said. The ILF, worth about £320 million (€450 million) per year, helps almost 20,000 severely disabled people live as independently as possible. The UK government announced in March that it would be cutting the entire fund by the end of June 2015.
