Thousands of women marched across the streets of Lima, Saturday, to condemn feminicides and other forms of violence against women in a mass demonstration dubbed 'Not One Less'.
Protesters gathered outside the Palace of Justice where cases involving gender-based violence are heard. People held coffins, balloons and signs reading "machismo kills" and "gender equality for new Peru".
Activist Veronica Ferrari highlighted the issue of feminicide in Peru, saying that "every day a woman dies from a feminicidal act" and that violence against women is "extreme".
"75 percent of the rapes in Peru are women under 18 years," Ferrari said.
A recent report by the Peruvian Ministry for Women and Vulnerable Populations had found a 26 percent surge in complaints about gender violence between January and April in 2017, in comparison with the same period last year.
