Authorities of Seoul’s Gangnam Community Health Center confirmed on Monday that a patient with the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) has returned to the hospital. According to the reports, the 42-year old patient visited the Samsung Medical Center on May 27 for a regular check-up and contracted MERS while using the emergency bathroom. The symptoms of the disease include fever, nausea and coughing, all of which the patient experienced on June 9. However, the patient only consulted doctors three days later. After being isolated, the patient is reported to have threatened to "spread" the virus and managed to escape the medical facility. After repeated phone calls, doctors and relatives are believed to have convinced the man to return to hospital. The first case of MERS was diagnosed in Saudi Arabia in 2010. The current outbreak in South Korea has killed a reported 16 people.
