Democrats Battle GOP Over Tough Budget Votes for GOP

Top Democratic budget writers on Tuesday preemptively railed against the GOP’s yet-to-be-finalized spending blueprint even as they planned to force Republicans to cast more tough election-year amendment votes on the budget. Senate Budget Ranking Member Bernie Sanders and his House counterpart Chris Van Hollen want to use the budget process to make Republicans vote on things like minimum wage, sick leave and privatizing Medicare.
Republican budget staff and chairmen this week are trying to smooth over the differences between the House and Senate budgets — which balance the government’s finances in a decade without raising taxes and repeal Obamacare. Leaders will name conferees today in the House to hash out the final details. The Senate is expected to follow suit later this week.
