SOT, Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commission President (French): "Michel Barnier and I lunched with Prime Minister Johnson on Monday. Now you'll hardly be surprised to learn that the Prime Minister assured us that he continues to want an agreement but, whatever happens he, and the United Kingdom will leave the European Union on the 31st of October with or without an agreement and that is why the risk of a no deal is very real."

SOT, Michel Barnier, European Union Chief Negotiator for Brexit (French): "Almost three years after the UK referendum, ladies and gentlemen, I don't think we should be spending time pretending to negotiate. It is our responsibility to move forward with this process with determination, with sincerity. We will continue to do it with ongoing consultations, with full transparency with the 27 governments for which we are negotiating."

SOT, Michel Barnier, European Union Chief Negotiator for Brexit (French): "We know what it is about when we talk about a no-deal [agreement], and I would recommend that nobody underestimates the consequences for the UK foremost, obviously, but for us as well in the absence of an agreement. We want this agreement to protect the rights of four and a half million European Citizens in the UK and British nationals in each one of our 27 member states."

The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned that a No-Deal Brexit scenario was 'very real' during a speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
"Now you'll hardly be surprised to learn that the Prime Minister [Johnson] assured us that he continues to want an agreement but, whatever happens he, and the United Kingdom will leave the European Union on the 31st of October with or without an agreement and that is why the risk of a no deal is very real," said Juncker.
Juncker met with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday for a 'working lunch' to discuss Brexit. Johnson's office released a statement saying both sides agreed to 'intensity' talks after the meeting.
"Almost three years after the UK referendum, ladies and gentlemen, I don't think we should be spending time pretending to negotiate. It is our responsibility to move forward with this process with determination," said he EU's chief negotiator for Brexit Michel Barnier said, following Juncker's speech.
Barnier also stated that no party should play down the risk of a No-Deal Brexit which would affect the UK and all 27 EU member states.
