Around 35 ultra-Orthodox Jewish men gathered outside the Jaffa military court in southern Tel Aviv on Tuesday, to protest the detention of a religious girl who refused to enlist in the military.
The group carried placards denouncing Israel's policy of drafting women.
"The main point of the army is to break the girls, to take away their religion, take them away from their religion," said one demonstrator.
Military service in Israel is compulsory for all men and women who are 18 years old, but when the country was established in 1948, its first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion allowed 400 ultra-Orthodox Jews to avoid compulsory service to study the Torah.
In September 2017, Israel's Supreme Court ruled that exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jews were unconstitutional.
