Israeli police forces began to erect a concrete wall in East Jerusalem to prevent Palestinians from Jabel Mukaber neighbourhood crossing into the Jewish area of Armon Hanatziv, Monday. Locals from Jabel Mukaber sat at the base of the nine metre (30 foot) wall while it was being finished. It had been erected under the pretext of avoiding alleged attacks form the Palestinian side. The construction of the wall came as part of crackdown measures approved last week by the Israeli security cabinet, which had led to growing concerns and criticism about a repartitioning of Jerusalem. At least 42 Palestinians and seven Israelis have died since October 1 in the latest round of violence in the region, which has witnessed the Occupied Palestinian Territories erupting over rising political tensions over the Al-Aqsa mosque, as well as the continued construction of illegal Israeli settlements.
