12.02.2016
Around fifty protesters from various different women's organisations rallied in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Quito on Thursday, to condemn the Turkish government's treatment of women following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's state visit earlier this week. They were also decrying the treatment of children, Kurds and other Turkish citizens.
Protesters carried banners calling Erdogan a 'killer' and chanted slogans against the Turkish president and his government, blaming him for the violent treatment that protesters suffered during the leader's state visit as well as curfews imposed against the Kurds in the south-east of Turkey.
On February 4, members of Erdogan's personal security forces were heavy handed with several women who shouted "killer!" at him when he was addressing the Ecuadorian people during his official visit to Quito.
