US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met his Turkish counterpart Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara on Wednesday, following a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Pompeo and Cavusoglu discussed bilateral relations and the disappearance of renowned Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi following a meeting with the Turkish President.
Pompeo's visit to Turkey comes after a stop in the Saudi capital, where he met with Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Khashoggi had gone to the consulate on October 2 to prepare documents for his upcoming marriage but has not been seen since. His fiancee claims to have waited outside for 11 hours but says he did not return.
So far, Saudi authorities maintain that Khashoggi left the building on the same afternoon as his visit.
US President Donald Trump and Pompeo have since reiterated that King Salman and Saudi officials denied knowledge of what happened to Khashoggi.
