SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "I came with the Border Patrol, we worked with them very closely. I said 'Fellas, how about doing a less expensive version?'. They said 'well, this is the version that works, including the poured concrete in the steel with the rebar and everything else.' That's the Rolls Royce version."
SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "This is your maximum you can do and one thing we haven't mentioned is technology, they are wired so that we will know if somebody is going to break through. And you may want to discuss that a little bit, General."
Lt Gen Todd Semonite, chief of the US Army Corps of Engineers: "Sir, there could be some merit in not discussing it."
Donald Trump, US President: "Ok. I like that. That was a great answer. I'll just tell you they are wired, ok? They are wired. They are technologically very advanced, all set up for cameras any place we want, we have everything we need. But it's all set up for cameras, for anything, you've been hearing drone technology, they are all wired out for drone technology. Anything you want, we have."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "Plus it's designed to absorb heat, so it is extremely hot. You won't be ale to touch it. You'll be able to fry an egg on that wall. It's very, very hot. So if they're going to climb it they will have to bring hoses and water and we don't know where they will hook it up because there is not a lot of water here. So it's a very very hard thing to climb."
SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "Going over it is impossible. It is virtually impossible. But they were very very happy with what we've done. So the days of, I tell you this very strongly, no more people can come in. We wanted Congress to help us, it would have made life very easy and we still want them to get rid of loopholes but we've done it a different way. We've done it with the help of Mexico, we've done it with the help of border patrol."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "Congress wouldn't do it - when I say Congress, the Democrats just wouldn't do it. So now we have a world-class security system at the border, including the highest technology. I would think there is no place like this anywhere. There is no place that has anything like this or even close to it. Now, other places have guards and unfortunately they have machine guns and they have electrified fences, you touch them and you get electrocuted. We don't do that. We don't do that. This is something that is equally difficult to get across."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "The Mexican troops [will be here] indefinitely. We are lowering it [US troops] down, as we build the wall we can just about take all of the troops out and Border Patrol takes over. Border Patrol's really been taking over now anyway. People are hearing about the wall and they are not coming up nearly as much either. You know, when you are in Guatemala - and by the way, I want to thank also Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, the leaders of those countries have really been working with us very strongly and in all fairness they weren't in the beginning but they are now and in a couple of cases, in all cases ultimately, we will be doing the safe-third agreements, we already have them. In certain instances we already have them and we are talking about that. But the thing is when people see this and they say, 'hey, there is no reason to make that long journey up.'"

US President Donald Trump presented a newly-built portion of the southern border wall to reporters in San Diego on Thursday.
Trump said the barrier would be "wired" in order to uncover attempts to violate it. Turning to Lt Gen Todd Semonite, chief of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Trump said "you may want to discuss that a little bit, General."
"Sir, there could be some merit in not discussing it," was the tactful answer of the official.
"It's designed to absorb heat, so it is extremely hot. You won't be able to touch it. You'll be able to fry an egg on that wall," Trump later boasted.
"So now we have a world-class security system at the border, including the highest technology. I would think there is no place like this anywhere. There is no place that has anything like this or even close to it," Trump continued.
"Other places have guards and unfortunately they have machine guns and they have electrified fences, you touch them and you get electrocuted. We don't do that. We don't do that. This is something that is equally difficult to get across."
