German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, to discuss the situation in Syria, the ongoing offensive to liberate Iraqi city of Mosul and fight against international terrorism. Steinmeier and al-Thani held a joint press conference following the meeting in Berlin, Thursday.
Speaking on the situation in eastern Aleppo, Steinmeier stated that "everyone in the international community bears responsibility, really everyone, and therefore should make efforts ... to provide the suffering population of eastern Aleppo with the vital necessities through the pause and later through a long-lasting ceasefire."
He went on to say that it is necessary to continue political dialogue aimed at looking for a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis.
Regarding the liberation of Mosul, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani stated that it "is one of the most important battles we have against terrorism, but also we wanted to reassure and to reaffirm the position of the Iraqi government to guarantee the safety of the civilians."
