USA: Cincinnati police shoot and kill black man as he reached for 'pellet gun'

19.02.2016
Mobile phone footage recorded by bystanders shows the moment police officers fatally shot to death Paul Gaston (37) as he kneeled on the ground in Cincinnati, Wednesday.
Gaston, who had just been in a serious car accident and appeared intoxicated, initially complied with police requests to kneel on the ground before allegedly making a sudden movement. Police then opened fire, striking Gaston multiple times and killing him.
The Cincinnati Police Department released a statement on Thursday saying that Gaston was carrying a pellet gun in his waist when he was shot, and said officers reacted on instinct in the incident which they claim was justified by self-defence.
The deceased's family have complained that officers used excessive force, and there have been allegations of double standards as a white man, Christopher Laugle (26), on Tuesday in the same city was peacefully apprehended by officers after drunkenly waving a fake gun at police.
