Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced from the central Spanish town of Bejar, Monday, that he signed a request to the Council of State to present a constitutional complaint against the resolution for independence voted on by the Catalan Parliament. Speaking from the Bejar town hall, Rajoy said that "the law is the law and when they attack the law all the means could be used." The Spanish Prime Minister called the Spanish people to "have faith in the institutions" and reassured everyone that "nobody will be divided by the democratic Spanish law that is protecting the people's rights and everyone's equality." Earlier on Monday, the Catalan regional parliament voted on independence for the northeastern Spanish region with 72 votes in favor and 63 votes against the resolution, opening the political path towards independence of Catalonia from Spain.
