Russia: Paralympians compete in alternative Moscow Paralympic Games

The Russian Paralympic Games, which were organised for Russian disabled athletes banned from competing in the Rio 2016 Games, continued in the town of Novogorsk, in the Moscow Region, on Thursday.
A total number of 263 athletes compete in 18 different sports, including powerlifting, triathlon, track and field, fencing and volleyball.
After the competition, the athletes were given flowers and certificates by Russian Sports Minister Vitali Mutko and First Vice President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov.
The Russian Paralympic Games officially opened in Moscow on Wednesday and will run until Saturday.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) suspended the entire Russian Paralympic team from the participation in this year's Rio Games, which are to be held between September 7 and 18. The decision was announced by the IPC President Philip Craven on August 7.
