08.02.2016
Thousands of mortgage holders protested outside the Central Bank of the Russian Federation in Moscow on Monday, hitting out at interest rates on foreign-currency loans following the dip in the ruble’s valuation.
Protesters shouted “shame” and “will you not help us” while blocking traffic outside the bank. Police forces announced that they made several arrests.
Previously, rallies were held in front of OTP Bank and Delta Credit Bank during which people blocked Tverskaya, one of Moscow’s main promenades. During the rally in front of the Delta Credit Bank protesters also reportedly attempted to storm the bank, only to be stopped at the entrance by the bank’s security. The protesters are calling for a review of the conditions on mortgages.
