Daniel Scioli, the front-running candidate for the ruling party in Argentina's presidential election, said on Tuesday he wanted Carlos Zanini as Vice President.
He is a close adviser from the current President's inner circle.
Scioli's choice of running mate for the October presidential elections suggests he will steer a course more in line with the president's unorthodox policies than many had hoped.
Zanini, legal and technical secretary to the president, rarely makes public appearances but has been broadly described in local media as President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's right-hand man.
The 60-year-old lawyer was nominated in 2003 by her predecessor and late husband, Nestor Kirchner.
