Vince Vaughn Leaves CAA Agency for WME After String of Flops
8
14.03.2015
Vince Vaughn is changing tactics after a string of box office disappointments.
The actor has dropped longtime agency CAA and taken up with rival William Morris Endeavor on the heels of Unfinished Business’ $4.8 million opening weekend, the nadir in a string of five straight box office bombs. The Fox comedy follows underperformers Delivery Man, The Internship, The Watch, and 2011’s The Dilemma – a long way from the $209 million-grossing Wedding Crashers a decade ago. Vaughn’s last hit was 2009’s Couples Retreat, which he headlined to the tune of $109 million at the domestic box office.
Prior to the official agency switch, Vaughn might have already signaled a change in strategy by transitioning to television. He signed on to star in season two of HBO’s True Detective. Sure, it’s TV, but as Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Matthew McConaughey can attest, it’s a prestige project that can serve as a key component to rehabbing a movie star’s career.
