Greece: Thousands of pensioners rally against planned pension cuts

19.01.2016
Pensioners from across Athens rallied in the Greek capital on Tuesday, in opposition to planned reforms to the country's social security system, as mandated in the latest tranche of Troika measures.
Thousands of pensioners gathered in the Square of National Resistance before marching across the city to the headquarters of the Labour Ministry.
Over 60 percent of Greeks voted to reject austerity measures in a referendum last year, however the Syriza government eventually caved in to eurozone pressure and accepted new austerity measures in return for much-needed funds.
