Tens of thousands took to the streets of Baghdad in a massive rally on Friday, demanding the withdrawal of US troops.
The march was called by Shia cleric and Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr as a 'Million Man March.' Protesters were seen chanting slogans such as 'Yes, yes, sovereignty, yes, yes, resistance," and "No, no, America, No, no, occupier," waving national flags and marching with banners denouncing US military interference in the country.
Calls for US troops to leave Iraq have been growing since the killing of Iranian Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani in a targeted airstrike on January 3.
Washington currently holds nearly 5,000 troops in the country.
