Two militants, suspected of working with the so-called Islamic State (IS, formally known as ISIS/ISIL) were killed in the town of Nazran during a sting operation in the southern republic of Ingushetia on Thursday, the Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced. According to the FSB the pair were surrounded in a house in the North Caucus region and ordered to surrender. After the suspects reportedly refused, the altercation culminated in a firefight in which the assailants were killed. Andrei Chatsky of the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee said that during the search, one of the suspects was found wearing a belt equipped with explosives. The suspects were also found with a pistol and ammunition. The security forces have said that the two men were suspected of trying to recruit for IS. There were no casualties among the local civilian population or the personnel who conducted the operation.
