Former Italian deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini addressed thousands of supporters of the League party at a rally marking its anniversary in Pontida on Sunday.
"I am curious to understand what the Premier (Giuseppe Conte) sold off in regard of Italy's sovereignty and economy to receive that pat on the shoulder he got from Macron and Merkel. We will be observing," said Salvini.
Left-wing journalist Gad Lerner was seen being insulted by the League supporters as he was covering the event. In a separate incident, the camera of reporter for Italian news outlet 'La Repubblica' was reported to have punched.
"The Italian population is not a slave of anybody. We leave the whispers with Merkel and Macron to the traitors of the Italian people," said Salvini, speaking from stage.
Salvini who had called for a snap election was left out of the new coalition cabinet formed by the Democratic Party (PD) and his former partners the 5-Star Movement (M5S).
