Germany: Govt. calls Russia's recognition of Donbass passports 'unacceptable'

The German government has condemned Russia's decision to recognise passports from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR/DNR) and Lugansk People's Republic (LPR/LNR), with German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert commenting on the issue in Berlin, Monday.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Martin Schafer supported Seibert, stating that the decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin is supposedly contradictory, in that it does not fully recognise the legality of republics' statuses, but grants their citizens certain privileges. Schafer added that such a decree was “not compatible with the spirit and purpose of the Minsk agreement."
Commenting on the decision of Turkish authorities to arrest Deniz Yucel, a German journalist working for daily newspaper Die Welt, Schafer said that the case was of “utmost importance” for Germany, as it symbolises the country’s "commitment to press freedom."
