Mainz's infamous Rosenmontag carnival began on Monday and poked fun at political world leaders including Russian President Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Floats making fun of Brexit with caricatures of the Queen and Boris Johnson could be seen, as participants drummed and marched in costumes and fancy dress.
There were also various satirical poems painted on floats, including one comparing US President Trump to Roman emperor Nero, saying "Oh blazing fire, lifted and carried away; Like Nero once delighted in; Trump tweets himself his world; in which he himself as Caesar holds."
The carnival traditionally lasts for six days, ending just before the start of Lent.
