Competitors Pal V and Aeromobil showcased two of the world's leading flying car technologies at the Top Marques Monaco auto show on Thursday.
Dutch flying car developer said their Pal V Liberty model holds the record for being the world's first commercial flying car with a retractable rotor. Although they displayed a design release for the show, the company promised that the car is now for sale and its first deliveries can be expected by the end of 2018.
Pal-V Chief Executive Officer, Robert Dingemanse, explained that Pal V stands for "Personal Air and Land vehicle", explaining that it "flies like an airplane, very easy and safe and it drives like a sports car."
AeroMobil's model can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h (99.4 mph) in the street and 200 km/h (124 mph) in the sky.
The two-seater prototype has a range of 800km, with a take-off possible at approximately 100 km/h.
Aeromobil Head of Vehicle Engineering, Simon Rooms, stated that the company's product is filling a gap in the auto-aero market. He said, "So at the moment, there is no equivalent flying in the world, there are experimental vehicles flying in the world, but none like this that we intend to certify to both meet the European Aerospace safety administration terms and also the road-going safety terms"
The 14th edition of Top Marques Monaco, deemed 'the most exclusive automotive show in the world', is taking place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, from April 20 to 23.
