German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that it is vital to find a "quick" and "good" solution for the United Kingdom's EU exit, in Berlin, Tuesday, where he was giving a speech ahead of a panel discussion on Europe.
"Now in the coming days, weeks and months what will be important is to hopefully find a good and quick solution for everybody, acceptable to all sides, for the exit of the United Kingdom. And I continue to say that we cannot afford an extended period of limbo. I hope that we will soon have clarity, at least about the roadmap on which we have to agree," Steinmeier stated.
During his speech, Germany's top diplomat also called the day of the UK's referendum result "a very bitter day."
He went on to say that further European integration must benefit the citizens of Europe. That, Steinmeier stated, "is the only way we can regain the trust that has been lost."
