Senior diplomats from 28 countries gathered in Paris, Friday, to attend a summit aimed at reaching a cessation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, the talks opened without Palestinian and Israeli delegates.
Among the attendees were UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, alongside representatives from the EU, the Arab League and other Arab states. The conference was initiated by France and is aimed at organising peace talks between the conflicting parties by autumn 2016.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu critisied the fresh attempt claiming that only direct negotiations between the parties can lead to peace.
