France: Striking rail workers protest in Paris over EU deregulation
7
27.04.2016
An estimated 200 rail workers staged a protest at the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris, Tuesday, as part of a one-day nationwide strike over plans to change working conditions in preparation for EU- deregulation.
Rail workers across the country are striking in response to the SNCF state railway company's plans to change working conditions in response to EU-wide deregulation set to come into effect in 2020. The changes will affect working hours and rules regarding days off.
The action was backed by the four main trade unions in France, the UNSA, CGT, SUD and CFDT, and caused severe disruptions to the country's railway services throughout the day.
