USA: 'We need to build a wall and quickly' - Trump on Mexican border

Sixty-nine-year-old businessman and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump declared his belief that a wall should be built on the US border with Mexico at the first televised debate in the campaign for the Grand Old Party (GOP) nomination to run in the 2016 election, in Cleveland on Thursday. Trump added that the wall "has to be built quickly," in order to "keep illegals out." The statement came after he criticised the press for their reporting on comments made accusing the Mexican government of sending illegal immigrants to the US. Trump also claimed that unless he had made those comments, the subject of immigration would not have been "on anybody's mind." He also pointed to the fact that, in his opinion, many killings, murders, crime have been committed in the border areas in recent times, as well as US "money going out and the drugs coming in." Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie and John Kasich are the other Republican candidates who also took part in the debate sponsored by Fox News. Candidates were selected by Fox News on the basis of recent opinion polls. Footage courtesy of: Fox News
