Spain: Rescue underway three days after toddler falls down 110-metre hole

Spanish authorities were seen excavating their way down a well in Totalan near Malaga on Wednesday, after a two-year old boy fell down it on Sunday.
The rescue operation is complicated by the nature of the terrain, the dimensions of the hole – 25cm (10in) wide and 110m (335ft) deep – and by the fact that dirt has fallen from the sides and blocked the bottom of the well, where the toddler, Julen Jimenez, is expected to be.
To reach him, the team is working on a series of vertical and horizontal tunnels using boring machinery and manual excavation.
People close to the rescue have reported that the original well will be consolidated to ensure its stability during the boring of the parallel holes.
