Greece: Refugee camps stretched as Macedonia tightens border controls

Around 400 refugees and migrants left on foot out of the Diavata camp in northern Greece on Thursday morning, in the direction of the Idomeni border crossing with Macedonia. They set off out of frustration with the camp, looking to cross into the neighbouring country.
However, the Macedonian border is still limiting the amount of refugees who can enter the country, leaving thousands stranded in camps on the Greek side of the border. The camp at Diavata has expanded in the past few days, with more tents being erected to house the new arrivals.
The tighter border controls that Macedonia is implementing are having a particular impact on Afghan refugees. The Greek government has tried to ease the strain on the Diavata camp by putting many Afghans onto buses bound for Athens.
