A Kyoto restaurant is having a promotional campaign selling blue 'horumon' (beef and pork offal) grilled meat. This limited-time menu is a show of support for the Japanese men’s national soccer team, which is nicknamed 'Samurai Blue.'
The meat is seasoned with mint and the shocking blue colour is a result of naturally occurring Spirulina, a microalgae which is often consumed as a dietary supplement.
The dish sells for 506 yen (€3.9/$4.6). When the numbers in the price are read individually, it actually sounds similar to 'goal' in Japanese ('go-o-roku').
In addition to the dazzlingly blue meat, the restaurant is also offering blue beer, wine, lemon sours, and highballs.
