Scientists at the Toyohashi University of Technology in the Aichi Prefecture demonstrated a device capable of reading human minds through brainwave detecting electrodes at the university on Thursday.
Professor at Toyohashi University of Technology Junsei Horikawa explained that the device, which fits like a hat, is “a special electrode arrangement to record brainwaves,” with the project goal to recognise words “without speaking.”
Guest Professor at the university Tsuneo Nitta, described the process saying first you must “isolate the words” before being able to identify a “short sentence like ‘I want to drink water’."
The device is hoped to be beneficial for those with “locked-in-syndrome,” giving them a means by which to communicate.
