Things got a little heated when pro-Russia activists and Ukrainian counter-protesters faced each other in Bologna on Saturday. The two opposing sides had a heated argument, but the situation did not escalate any further. Both protests carried on slightly further apart from each other, while police officers kept an eye on them. The pro-Russian activists protested against sanctions imposed on Russia, stating that “Russia is not the enemy” and condemned NATO. Many brought Russian and Italian flags, while some wore political t-shirts. According to Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Italy’s economy has also suffered from the sanctions against Russia, causing trade to decline significantly.
