Mongolia: Presidential candidates head to the polls on election day

Two of Mongolia's presidential candidates, Democratic Party (DP)'s Battulga Khaltmaa and Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP)'s Ganbaatar Sainkhuu, cast their votes in Ulaanbaatar on Monday, as Mongolians headed to polling stations to elect their next leader.
A total of three candidates are competing for the post, with the leader of the governing Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) Miyeegombyn Enkhbold shown by polls to be the favourite.
A second round of voting will take place should no candidate manages to obtain 50% of the vote.
All large-scale events, including cultural or sporting events, are forbidden on election day and the following day in Ulaanbaatar. Alcohol is also banned.
