The World Food Programme transported around 60 children and their caretakers from the monastic school in village of Lho to Deairali, June 10, which was badly damaged during the two major earthquakes on April 25 and May 12. According to the WFP Spokesperson Iolanda Jaquemet's, in statement made on Monday, the evacuation was requested by the Nepalese authorities, as the monastery is experiencing difficulties, with food provision being cut off from the world. The two earthquakes on April 25 and May 12 left over 8,000 people dead and over 23,000 injured. As a result UNICEF estimated that 1.7 million children were affected and in need of urgent humanitarian aid.
