Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in on the sidelines of the 33rd summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Singapore on Wednesday.
Putin said that South Korea is Russia’s second largest trade partner in Asia, adding “last year, the trade turnover increased by 23 percent, and for the first nine months of this year by another 13 percent.”
The Russian leader went on to say that the two countries “are actively working” in the international arena and trying to resolve the “most sensitive North Korean nuclear issue.”
South Korean President Moon Jae-in thanked Russia for the “support for the establishment of a large peace movement on the Korean Peninsula.”
The four-day ASEAN summit sees representatives from the organisation's ten member states as well as from the region's major economies meet to discuss economic, trade, security, investment and development opportunities in South East Asia.
