A 'Military Border' press briefing on the reinforcing of Bulgaria's frontier with Turkey was held in Rezovo on Saturday. Due to the recent coup attempt in Turkey, Bulgaria has reinforced its southern border adding 230 personnel to its border police force.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Minister of Defence Nikolai Nenchev and Chief Commissioner of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kostov were in attendance. The security of the Bulgarian southern border and steps to protect the external border of the European Union were addressed during the briefing.
During the briefing, Borisov called on the nation to "stay consolidated and united because threats around us are major."
In turn, Kostov, assured that "in the context of the higher risk observed in all European countries," the necessary steps have been taken. He noted: "If we register any menace, depending on its authenticity, we will react absolutely adequately."
Commenting on Friday's attack in Munich, Nenchev said: "We do our best to guarantee the safety of our citizens who are obviously worried because of what is happening near Turkey and what happened in Munich yesterday."
