Chinese telecom giant Huawei launched their artificial intelligence (AI) chip, the Ascend 910, that they described in a press release as 'the world's most powerful AI processor'. The commercial release was announced at a conference in Shenzhen on Friday.
Huawei's Deputy Chairman of the Board, Eric Xu, explained that "Ascend 910 is used for AI model training. In a typical training session based on ResNet-50, the combination of Ascend 910 and MindSpore trains AI models about two times faster than other mainstream training cards using TensorFlow. Ascend 910 can train 1,802 images per second, while existing training cards can only train 965 images per second."
The AI processor Ascend 910 was first unveiled in October 2018.
