Siberian photographer Vadim Makhorov together with three pilots flew across the world’s deepest lake and managed to capture stunning footage of the moment their plane lands on the frozen Lake Baikal.
Makhorov and three others flew from Listvyanka village to Svyatoy Nos peninsula using a light-engine aircraft Cessna 172, performing a successful landing on the lake despite warnings of thin ice.
According to the Baikal Search and Rescue Unit of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the ice sheet is thinner than usual especially in the northern and central parts of the lake due to heavy snowfall.
The ministry had earlier put out a statement warning drivers to take extreme care when using the lake’s winter ice roads.
"It's not usual for planes to land on ice. There may be some risks whether that be ice drift, cracks or thin ice," Makhorov commented.
